Michael G. Johnson serves as director of Community Life for The Community Builders New York/New Jersey region, a position he has held since January 2020. Johnson leads strategic priorities for Community Life in New York City, the Capital District, Westchester County and New Jersey, working closely with the organization’s real estate development, property management and fund development teams.
Previously, Johnson served as vice president in global philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he was responsible for the firm’s affordable housing and community development portfolio for the New York Tri-State area, and a national portfolio involving affordable housing seed capital and data-driven solutions for neighborhood revitalization through Partnership for Raising Opportunities (PRO) Neighborhoods. Prior to JPMorgan Chase, he served as chief of staff to the general manager and director of customer operations at the New York City Housing Authority. He also served as assistant vice president at the NYC Economic Development Corporation.
Johnson holds a Master of Arts in Political Science degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and a Master in City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in city planning from the University of Virginia.
In addition, Johnson is an active member of the MIT Alumni Association and serves on the MIT Corporation Visiting Committee for the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. He is also an adjunct faculty member with the School of Labor and Urban Studies of the City University of New York (CUNY) and serves on the board of the Berean Housing Fund Development Corporation.
