Tom Buonopane serves as chief investment officer for The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB) in Boston, a position he has held since 2019. In this role, he oversees all project finance, asset management, and community development financing activities.

Tom joined TCB in 2006. Prior to his role as CIO, he served as vice president of finance and asset management where he managed relationships with tax credit syndicators and investors. He and his team directed TCB’s real estate portfolio and identified opportunities to reposition or refinance properties. Prior to that, Tom served as vice president of development finance at TCB, where he and his team provided support to development and finance activities in the organization. He worked closely with the development teams to secure financing and to design the capital structure for various mission-based projects. Tom is experienced in providing strategic assistance to developers on financial structuring for transactions using public and private capital sources.

Prior to joining TCB, Tom was a senior manager of a consulting division for a worldwide professional services firm, which provided tax, accounting, consulting, and specialist advisory services to developers and investors. He has over 20 years of experience working on a wide range of tax advantaged real estate projects, including low-income housing, historic rehabilitation, and new markets tax credit projects.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University.
