(June 18, 2024) – Provincetown, Mass. – Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll joined The Community Builders (TCB) to celebrate the groundbreaking for Province Post, a 65-unit mixed-income, workforce housing community for families. State and local partners supporting the project, including Secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Ed Augustus, Provincetown Town Manager Alex Morse, Provincetown Select Board Chair David Abramson, State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro) and Vice President of Multifamily Programs Mark Teden with MassHousing were also in attendance to celebrate and provide remarks.
Serving the year-round workforce of this popular resort town, Province Post will feature 65 apartments for both market rate and households earning from 80% to below 30% of area median income. Resident amenities will include shared patios, a laundry room, seating areas, outdoor and covered bike racks, direct access to the bike path towards Captain Bertie’s Way, and a veteran memorial honoring the former Provincetown Veterans of Foreign Wars post on site. The development will offer 45 parking spaces and will be located within close proximity to a supermarket, dining, healthcare, retail, and is just a short walk to Provincetown’s bustling Commercial Street.
In 2011, TCB was chosen as the developer for the Province Landing development, located a quarter mile from Province Post. Today, Province Landing is fully occupied and provides 50 homes for families. In 2021, after a competitive RFP process, TCB was once again selected by the Town to develop the site at 3 Jerome Smith Road.
“Province Post marks a significant milestone in TCB’s ongoing efforts to address the pressing need for affordable housing, particularly for working families in Provincetown,” said Rachana Crowley, TCB senior director of development. “Today, we strengthen our commitment to Provincetown by breaking ground on 65 new affordable homes where residents can live and thrive in their community. On behalf of The Community Builders, I extend my deepest thanks and congratulations to Provincetown’s Select Board, Town Manager Alex Morse, MassHousing, and the many partners, stakeholders, and neighbors who are making this development possible.”
“Province Post marks important progress in developing and providing attainable, year-round housing for over 100+ members of the Provincetown community. I want to thank the Select Board, Town staff, and our residents and voters for their support and partnership in making this project – the largest housing project in over a decade in Provincetown – a reality,” said Provincetown Town Manager Alex Morse.
“I’m proud to be part of a Select Board that has made housing our top priority in Provincetown. We are excited about this project and look forward to Province Post housing many of our residents who have struggled to find stable, year-round homes in our community,” said Provincetown Select Board Chair David Abramson.
“Across the state, the number one issue we hear about is the lack of affordable housing, and we know these challenges are particularly pronounced on the Cape,” said Lieutenant Governor Driscoll. “Province Post will serve as a model for workforce housing that can be replicated across the state. I’m grateful for all of the partners who made this project a reality.”
“Provincetown could not be the vibrant and popular Cape Cod destination it is today without the dependable workforce and their families that keep this community running,” said Ed Augustus, secretary of the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities. “We simply can’t afford to let them be priced out. These apartments, located in the heart of the community, keep Provincetown’s workforce living locally. By doing that, this development also helps support the town’s thriving economy. The Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities is proud to help take Province Post from great idea to reality.”
“There is a major need for housing for people who live and work on Cape Cod and MassHousing is very pleased to be part of this effort by TCB and the Town of Provincetown to develop 65 new rental homes for residents with a range of incomes,” said MassHousing CEO Chrystal Kornegay. “This housing will serve residents who work on the Cape but who might otherwise be priced out of living near their jobs.”
The development of Province Post is made possible by collaborative efforts, including funding from the Town of Provincetown, MassHousing, EOHLC, CEDAC, Barnstable County, Cape Light Compact, and more. Delphi Construction will lead construction with design by DBVW Architects. This development will showcase a strong commitment to sustainability by being all-electric and pursuing Enterprise Green Communities certifications.
Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2026.
