(New Brunswick, N.J) – Today, Mayor Jim Cahill joined by The Community Builders (TCB), the New Brunswick Housing Authority (NBHA), Middlesex County and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) along with local leaders, residents and project partners celebrated the ribbon cutting of Stirlingside Residences. This new mixed-income apartment community delivers 53 quality homes and expands access to affordable housing in New Brunswick.
“Stirlingside Residences represents the kind of thoughtful development New Brunswick is proud to support… development that creates opportunity, strengthens neighborhoods, and ensures that families of all backgrounds can continue to call our City home,” said New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill. “This project reflects what can be accomplished when strong public and private partners work together with a shared commitment to affordable housing, community stability, and a brighter future for our residents.”
Another milestone that testifies to TCB’s continued involvement in the community, Stirlingside Residences represents a significant investment in the city’s future, creating housing opportunities for families across a range of income levels while reinforcing New Brunswick’s commitment to inclusive growth, neighborhood stability, and long-term community development.

This new development includes 13 three-bedroom, 30 two-bedroom, and 10 one-bedroom apartments, designed to meet the needs of families of varying sizes. Importantly, six homes are reserved for families and individuals who have previously experienced homelessness, ensuring that the community provides not only housing, but also pathways to stability and opportunity.
“Stirlingside Residences demonstrates how important partnerships and strategic investment can expand housing affordability and support residents experiencing homelessness,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios. “Through Middlesex County’s Housing First Capital Funds initiative, we are proud to help create inclusive communities where residents can access safe housing without stigma, rebuild their lives, and achieve a stronger quality of life for themselves and their families.”
Designed to support residents’ quality of life, Stirlingside Residences offers a range of modern amenities, including a community room for gatherings and programming, a fitness room, bicycle storage, a laundry area, and professional on-site property management. The development also reflects a strong commitment to sustainability, achieving ENERGY STAR® certification and Enterprise Green Communities (EGC) certification, which promote energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and lower utility costs for residents.

With more than 25 years of experience in the city, TCB’s partnership with New Brunswick dates back to its designation as developer for the HOPE VI Revitalization Plan in 1998. Since then, TCB has successfully developed 244 homes in the community, including Hope Manor Apartments, Riverside Apartments, Lord Stirling Apartments, and now Stirlingside Residences, each contributing to a broader vision of accessible, high-quality housing.

Strategically located near downtown New Brunswick, the community provides residents with walkable access to public transit, employment opportunities, schools, healthcare, and retail services, enhancing connectivity and supporting economic mobility.
The development of Stirlingside Residences was made possible through a collaborative financing structure that includes support from NJHMFA, Middlesex County, the City of New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Housing Authority, CPC Mortgage Company, Raymond James, Santander Bank, The Reinvestment Fund, and New Jersey Community Capital. Pike Construction Co. served as the general contractor, with design by Inglese Architecture + Engineering.
