George Tabit Joins The Community Builders as Regional Vice President of Development

The Community Builders (TCB) announced the appointment of George Tabit as regional vice president of development for the Great Lakes region, effective November 2023.

October 19, 2023 – (Columbus, Ohio) – The Community Builders (TCB) announced the appointment of George Tabit as regional vice president of development for the Great Lakes region, effective November 2023. The Community Builders is one of America’s leading nonprofit housing organizations, developing over 30,000 rental homes since 1964.

Tabit will direct all real estate development activities in the TCB Great Lakes region, which includes Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and southern Indiana. He will serve as relationship executive for the region and lead project management teams in identifying and executing residential and mixed-use developments from conception to completion. The TCB Great Lakes portfolio includes approximately 2,500 homes owned or managed, with over $435 million in residential, commercial and mixed-use real estate investments.

The TCB Great Lakes region spans communities from Detroit to Louisville. TCB developments have sparked economic opportunity in the area, creating affordable and mixed-income housing solutions, along with thriving commercial anchors. Notable Great Lakes projects include three HUD Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grants in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Detroit. The region is also home to the award-winning Commodore Apartments in Cleveland’s University Circle.

Tabit worked for nearly six years at National Church Residences where he served as vice president of senior housing development and as a senior living developer. Tabit built and managed a robust $140 million pipeline of projects and launched a new product line of independent living communities designed to meet the needs of middle-income seniors without affordable housing options. Prior to that, Tabit served as vice president of construction and development services where he managed a national construction portfolio of over $150 million in multifamily, age-restricted housing.

Prior to National Church Residences, Tabit served as vice president of real estate development at Homeport, a nonprofit organization dedicated to broadening affordable housing choices in Central Ohio. Tabit also served as vice president of economic development of for the Columbus Compact Corporation, leading strategy and operations for a federal Empowerment Zone program with a $5 million annual budget.

Tabit holds a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Miami University. He served in the United States Peace Corps in the West African country of Togo. An Ohio native, Tabit lives in the City of Bexley with his family.
