Velvet Johnson serves as a portfolio operations director for The Community Builders, Inc. in Albany, N.Y., a position she has held since 2023. Velvet leads operations of a nearly 500-unit property portfolio of mixed-income residences across New York state.

Since joining TCB in 2011, Velvet served in increasingly senior roles, most recently as property operations manager for multifamily properties in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Prior to that, Velvet served as community manager for TCB’s upstate New York portfolio. Before joining TCB, Velvet served as a CGI federal contract specialist as well as an assistant branch manager for Keybank N.A.

Velvet holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice from the State University of New York at Albany. She holds several industry designations, including Certified Housing Manager®, Tax Credit Specialist and Certified Occupancy Specialist®.
